Abortion

Even though I am Catholic I have such mixed feelings about whether or not abortion should be legal or illegal. I don't think that abortions are moraly right. But think about if abortion is illegal how many kids would be thrown in the trash, or how many parents would be abusive, or not provide the necessary needs of the child. I know that adoption is an option, and there is so many people wanting to adopt children. But i think after a women carries a child for so long they have a harder time to give it away, even if they know they can't take care of the baby. According to huffington post Oklahoma has some of the strictest abortion laws in the country by forcing women to anwser questions about race and their relationships, and to listen to a doctor talk them through an ultrasound. Oklahoma did this to see what causes people to want an abortion. I think that this is disregarding freedom of making your own decisions. It is hard for me to think of a world where abortion would be illegal, Just because people should be able to decide what they want to do with their own body. I definitely am against tax-funded abortion. I agree that abortion is not health care. I think that if somebody does not want a baby then they need to be more careful of what there doing. On lifenews.com they quote President Obama saying that people that oppose abortion are terrorist. I don't understand how that even make sense because the people that are pro-life are agianst killing of innocent children and when I think of the word terrorist I think of someone who is agianst everyone and wants to hurt people. So where I stand on this topic is that abortion should not be made illegal and health care should not pay for abortions, I think it should be your choice, even if i don't agree with abortion.

  1. After reading Ms. Michaud's article on Abortion, I found myself agreeing with almost everything she said. As someone who is pro-choice, I find it hard to agree with what President Obama was quoted as saying that everyone who is pro-life are terrorists. I don't agree on so many levels. Everyone has a right to do with their body as they please. I agree with her stance on Oklahoma having strict abortion laws. I mean, what does race have to do with having an abortion? I believe that what you do with your body is your own personal business, I think that's where government should draw the line. I don't think government should dictate what a woman does with her body. Plus, if we overturn Roe v. Wade then you'll have women getting botched abortions which leave them unfertile or worse they wind up dead. I hope I never see this in my lifetime or any lifetime for that matter. I also agree that it shouldn't be tax-funded. It is not health care. Although I think that we should atleast help these women financially to afford it. Although I agree with what Ms. Michaud stated I would've liked her to delve more into the history of abortion and why it's important for us to retain Roe v. Wade.

  2. After reading Nicole commentary on Abortion, I disagree with her because abortion should not be legalized. Low income women have much support and many options. Often, the families of the mothers are willing to assist the mother. Many government programs are also designed to help low income women throughout all phases of bearing and raising children. All expenses are paid, and more, for women who are willing to adopt out their newborn babies. Abortion is the worst thing a woman can do against human dignity. It is a crime against life. No woman has the right to kill a new living being. Many countries ban abortion and many institutions fight against it. Abortion is immoral and it should not be legalized. Abortion is also a threat to the mother's health. A woman can suffer an infection or internal bleeding. She could also become sterilized, the permanent inability to bear a child. Abortion not only kills the baby but may kill the mother too. During an abortion, despite the use of local anesthesia, 97% of the women report severe pain, and if a more powerful drug is used she could suffer dangerous side effects. Many complications are common after an abortion, like inflammation of the reproductive organs. As well, there is strong evidence that abortion increases the risk of breast cancer. Women that abort increase their chances of getting breast cancer by 50%. They make the future mothers realize that her baby deserves to have the chance of living. They tell them that if they can't support the baby then she could give it up for adoption but not kill him. Do women have the right to steal the life of a new living being? Killing a person is illegal, so why should a fetal murder be legal? You have to ask yourself these questions and realize that when a woman aborts, she is acting like any other murderer.

  3. omen should have the right to choose whether they have an Abortion are not. It is there own personal business what they do with there body. You are right about the botched abortions it would be a terrible thing to lose the fetus and the mom. The Supreme Court did get it right when they broke it into trimesters. It should be dependent on the situation of the mom. I would have to listen to the quote before I believe the President Obama would say something like that. He is very articulate in the way that he presents himself. That would be an utter failure for him to sound like that last guy we had in the oval office. The healthcare issue is one that still has wondering what it really all means. I agree with the women that can not afford it should be able to get tax breaks or just paid for. The women that could not afford it could use other means as well. So overall I agree with your article. I think this will always be controversial but is a non issue at this point. I just can not see the ruling of Roe v. Wade being overturned. Things are a lot different in this day and age.
